Louis Renoult

Louis Renoult

Principal Investigator

I am an Associate Professor at the School of Psychology at UEA. I study memory in young and in older adults, using lab tests and neuroimaging techniques. I am interested in how different types of memory interact, such as our ability to remember and re-experience past experiences (episodic memory) and our ability to extract meaning and conceptual knowledge from the world around us (semantic memory). Before joining UEA in 2013, I completed my PhD at McGill University (Montreal, Canada) in 2010, as well as post-doctoral training at the Rotman Research Institute (Toronto) and at the University of Ottawa. I am originally from France, where I studied Psychology and Neuroscience at undergraduate and Master’s level. Outside of work, I love playing and listening to music, watching movies, enjoying the Norfolk coast, and spending time with friends and family.

Senior Research Associate

I am currently working as a Senior Research Associate on an MRC funded project attempting to understand how the electrophysiological correlates (the electrical response of the brain) of personal semantic knowledge (this includes knowledge of our character traits or the name of the Street we grew up on) changes with ageing and in relation to risk factors associated with Alzheimer’s disease. I am interested in understanding cognitive ageing because getting a better understanding of what changes in the brain are part of healthy ageing can help us improve diagnosis and treatment for “unhealthy” ageing such as Dementia. Before working in Norwich, I completed my PhD at Liverpool Hope University where I focused on how expectations can influence emotional processing. I previously completed a Masters in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Sussex and a Bachelors in Integrated Life Sciences (a fancy way of saying Biology, Mathematics, and Physics) at the Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg in Germany where I am originally from.

PhD Student

I am a PHD student investigating how memories change when we age. Before moving to UK, I did my bachelor and master in Psychology and Neuroscience in Bologna (Italy). After my graduation, I went to Montreal (Canada) to work on a research project that investigated how we generalize what we know to new situations. Currently, at UEA, I am looking at the transformation of memory over time, from very detailed to more semanticized and general. Outside work, I am an enthusiastic reader, a travel lover and an ultimate frisbee player!

PhD Student

I am a PhD student at UEA researching the re-experiencing of rich and vivid memories. I am particularly interested in multisensory memory recall and how the sense of self and first person perspective influences future memory recall, as well as discovering the brain regions involved in this process. I am originally from Italy, before moving to Wales with my family and then Norwich for my Undergraduate degree. Outside of work I love hiking, playing music and swinging from a trapeze.

Research Associate

I completed a BSc in Psychology and an MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of York. I am particularly interested in the neural underpinnings of memory and how individual variations in brain anatomy and connectivity may support or hinder performance. As part of past projects, I’ve explored how individual variation in brain organization may predict performance in tasks of variable semantic demands as well as graded effects of modality on semantic control processes. Currently I am researching into components of resting-state networks and the role they may play in the retrieval of episodic and semantic aspects of autobiographical memory. Outside research, I enjoy playing hockey, hiking and throwing on the potter's wheel.

Emily Fisher

Emily Fisher

Master's student

I am currently studying MSc Cognitive Neuroscience with an interest in healthcare product or service design for patients with neurological disorders or mental health problems. Prior to this I worked in scientific research and technical positions at the University of Cambridge and University of East Anglia. I also work with research groups to make designs, illustrations, and animated films for public events. I’m interested in the way visual communication can create new ways of thinking about scientific and medical themes to educate, shed light on human experience and act as a starting point for discussion. I have an MA Moving Image and Sound and a BSc (Hons) Human Physiology.

Research Associate

I am currently working as a Research Associate on an MRC funded project investigating neural correlates for semantic memory in people with genetic predisposition to Alzheimer's Disease. Before working at UEA, I completed a BSc in Human Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow, a BSc in Applied Biomedical Sciences at the University of the West of Scotland, trained and worked as an MR operator for a private clinic and completed a MSc in Neuroimaging at Cardiff University. My research interests include the ageing brain and multimodal neuroimaging approaches for studies in neurodegenerative diseases. Outside research, I enjoy swimming, learning languages and dancing salsa.
